Key Features

Features of Professional Archive Manager for Files
File Server Archiving
Professional Archive Manager for Files is a software-based enterprise file archiving solution compatible with MS File Server, EMC Cellera File Mover and NetApp OnTap Filer.
The integrated HSM (Hierarchical Storage Management) Engine drives the archiving process that controls file lifecycle management. Professional Archive Manager for Files connects to overworked file servers and re-directs documents onto separate, more cost-effective storage media.
Professional Archive Manager for Files can also control the length of time for which messages are archived, in accordance with relevant industry and legal regulations. Archived messages and attachments can then be retrieved, deleted and restored by authorized users.
Single Instance Storage
Single Instance Storing automatically archives only one instance of a multiply saved document. Professional Archive Manager for Files checks whether identical files have already been saved by means of Single Instance Method (MD5 check sum logic). Multiple versions of the same file are avoided and every authorized user is still able to access and edit the document as usual. Storage space is significantly minimized.

Archiving Methods
Predetermined times are set for scheduled file archiving jobs. The IT Administrator can manage the time period of these jobs for documents of a certain type, exceeding a certain size, age or from particular users. The Professional Archive Manager for Files Manager is the Admin tool that allows the various filters to be added to jobs for specific archiving options.
Archiving Options:
-
All files including directory structure
-
Specific File Types (e.g. MS-Word)
-
Files exceeding a specific size
-
Files starting at a specific creation or edit date
-
Files which have not been accessed since a specific date

Compliance Management
The IT Administrator can set retention times on documents for complete control of the file lifecycle with regards to litigation. After designating a file with a deletion time, one can assign a ‘keep alive period’ that warns the administrator that the retention time is reached and the file is about to be deleted from the archive. Compliant storage media can be installed to ensure the files are not tampered with while stored.
Automatic Versioning
If an archived document is accessed and edited then Professional Archive Manager for Files recognizes the amendments and automatically stores the revised document as a new version. Authorized users can then view the different instances, new or original, of that document. This prerequisite archiving tool is central to compliant storage management and the retrieval of files for e-Discovery purposes.
